International Cycling Group of Guangzhou, China

University Town Ride

  • The Uni Town ride is our regular weekly ride suitable for all cyclists at various performance levels. Fast riders and seasoned riders will team up along with the local university cycling group and end up pushing speeds beyond 40km/h, while others will find a pace group that suits their own performance level. Newcomers to cycling and this group will appreciate that the uni town ride is a 16.3 km loop on a wide, multiple lane road that has virtually no traffic, thus making this a very safe ride.

  • Meeting point and start of this ride is the Uni Mall parking lot next to the Mc Donalds drive through. Refer to attached google earth snapshot that indicates the cycling route as well as Meeting point. You can also download the google earth place mark and path at these links. uni town ride, uni town meeting point

  • You must have google earth installed on your computer. Go to http://earth.google.com to download this free application.

Mao Feng Shan Ride

  • Mao Feng Shan is just a short 30 minutes drive north-north east of Guangzhou and once there you are in the country side- completely opposite of the Guangzhou metropolis.

  • Our meeting point is at one of the gates that lead up a beautiful scenic road towards the Mao Feng Shan National Park. Download the MFS meeting point as a google earth placemark.

  • The main ride offers some nice flat section but also a few climbs with and elevation gain of more than 100m. One lap is about 23 km long and on good days we do about 4 laps.

  • Download the google earth track via this link: MFS lap

Long Dong Ride (Radar Station)

  • This is a one-way ride up to a radar station. Start of the climb is at approx 50m above sea level and it ends up short of 350m over a distance of 4.6 kilometer. The toughest section is on the first 500 meter which can do some severe damage if you don't pace yourself. Once that part is over it is more or less consistent gradients with a few 'flatter' sections on which the pace can be picked up easily. Apparently the fastest time ever on this climb is at exactly 12:00 min by one of the strongest local bike racers. Feel free to drop us a note on your personal best time, or hook up at our facebook group site and post it there.

  • Join this ride if you want to train your uphill cycling performance, build strength and get your heart rate up.

  • Be aware of traffic (cars and hikers) when going downhill. Beautiful days bring out the crowds.

  • Here are the google earth links to the start of the radar hill climb and how to get to long dong

Nan Kun Shan Ride (short - NKS)

  • Nan Kun Shan is about 1:15 - 1:30 hr drive north of Guangzhou and a great place for serious cycling. The regular Nan Kun Shan Pass reaches and altitude of 750m above sea level. Taking the side road up to the sky lake goes up a bit further to 820m. Besides the various routes you can take with your roadbike, NKS is also a haven for Mountain Biking. More information on MTB will follow soon.

  • Our meeting point is "The village with the big tree in the middle of the road". Follow the google earth link and the integrated placemark for the meeting point.

  • One standard route is the 'grande loop' that covers plenty of climbing (and downhill) as well as a 50km long flat section that has unfortunately a few road sections that are of poor quality. However it's still a fun ride to do.

  • Below is the google earth route plot as well as the climbing profile for the 'grande loop' and here the google earth file.

More routes and ride descriptions will follow soon. Keep visiting this page.
